To all Slutskaya fans:
This Kwan fan feels your pain, but don't be sad, Irina is a legend.
To win two Olympic medals, 2 world crowns, and seven Euros is something to relish. Greatness is measured by longevity and success, not from one moment.

My heart is broken for her, and I'm surprised at my own reaction. I love her as a person and as a sports personality, of course there are aspects of her skating I think could be improved, but I like HER, you know? Her and her fighting spirit. And her programs in Moscow were just fantastic, she had found her style and her spirit and the whole nine yards. I feel like the two skates she put together here demonstrated the most musicality and maturity I'd ever seen from her on ice. And to lose it on the loop - TOO CRUEL!!!

Congratulations Irina. She is an inspiration to anyone who has struggled against an devastating illness and other adversity. I know she's bitterly disappointed. I am disappointed for her. But its been a privilege to have watched her mature from the red cheeked teenager to the mature woman she is today. Good job, Baby, you had a bad day. Have a good life.

I'm sure she must be incredibly disappointed, but I'm sure if someone had told her two years ago, when she was first battling her illness, that two years later she'd have another Olympic medal, break the record for Euros titles and win another world championship in her home country, it would have seemed like a dream come true.
She and her fans should be very proud of all she's accomplished and how she's become a legend in the sport and an inspiration to other people battling medical illnesses.

I feel really sorry for Irina, but when you had so many set backs like she had and so many health problem I really think she can look back at her career and feel nothing but pride.
She is one of the greatest and with or without that gold she will be remembered.
I hope she'll not be too disappointed with this result, she's been great and her 2005 world gold medal performance will always stand (in my heart at least) as one of the greatest performance of all time.

Congratulations Irina! It's been a long time since SLC and it's admirable that Slute was able to stay competitive for so long. I hope she can be happy with the effort and accolades she's received over the years. It just wasn't meant to be.

Irina is a fabulous skater and yet it seems so much like Kwan. Always had the good, could always skate fabulous performances, could win worlds, nats in Slutskaya's case europeans over and over and yet never get the Gold that they could on another day win.

Irina is just that wonderful. Considering all she had to go through since the 2002-2003: her mom illness, skip Worlds to saty with her, then she got ill, miss almost all season long, did Worlds just because she had to see if she could, did her best. Got sick again, fought again, had a wonderful season that ended with a Gold medal in his homecity. She is probably heartbroken, and I imagine some fans are as well (I am) but none will take away that she never gave up, I don't mean just today but overall.
As somoene mentioned, Olys is just a two day event. But, for better or for worse, is the one almost everyone remember best. It's a shame it happened now, but if Irina decides this is it and she will retire, then she will leave as the World Champion that had one of the most mesmerizing performance I have ever seen.
Irina, you ROCK!
