Concord Dawn are one of New Zealands highest selling electronic artists, and have been in the New Zealand University Bnet radio charts top 10 for longer than any act in history.
Evan and Matt met at Intermediate School before meeting up again at Audio Engineering School, and Concord Dawn was formed after they discovered a mutual love for drum n bass. Harvey has played drums for various hip-hop, ambient and acid jazz groups (including Cursor), while Short has played guitar for hardcore metallers Day One.
The boys have picked up the 'Best Electronic Release' and 'Best Independent Album' at the Bnet music awards in recognition of their hard work. Accolades such as these are evidence to prove they have earned a reputation as one of the most devastating live acts in New Zealand, creating a unique vibe on the dance floor that leaves everybody wet and smiling.
Influenced by Drum and Bass acts such as Bad Company and DJ Trace, Evan 'Kiljoy' Short and Matt 'Matty C' Harvey formed the distinctive sound that is Concord Dawn.
Throughout the last five years Matt and Evan have toured heavily throughout New Zealand; playing alongside Cause 4 Concern, Bad Company, Konflict and Bulletproof, been part of New Zealand and Australia's largest festivals such as the Big Day Out, Rippon and the Gathering, and have played throughout Europe, playing gigs in England, Belgium, France and Norway as well as Singapore and a six date tour of Australia.
International heavyweights such as Grooverider, Goldie, DJ Hype, Ed Rush, Dieselboy, Bad Company, Total Science, Digital,Trace, Klute, Bailey, Fierce, Marcus Intalex, Kemal, Cause for Concern and many others have been playing Concord Dawn, proving that its not just homegrown pride that has contributed to their success here in New Zealand. DJ magazine, a respected UK publication, gave their first British vinyl release 4 out of 5 stars, In addition, Coda, Frances most respected dance magazine, gave 'Disturbance' a 10/10 review.
Other reviews and interviews have appeared in English magazines as IDJ, Mixmag, Seven, Knowledge and magazines from Germany, Belgium and Estonia. Check the November 2002 issue of Mixmag for John B's 'Trance and Bass' mix CD, containing three Concord Dawn tunes.
Concord Dawn's track 'Morning Light' has received a large amount of success internationally. It has been rated as one of the top tunes of the 2002 Miami Winter Music Conference and was often used as the opening track of many DJs sets, which secured them an invitation to showcase at the Winter Music Conference 2003.
Originally licensed to L-Plates, 'Morning Light' was released on Timeless Recordings in July 2002, alongside another one of their tracks entitled 'Check This Sound' which is the b-side.
Concord Dawn have charted at #3 on Goldies Top 20 with 'Morning Light (Please Don't Cry)', also making #1 on Chemical Records online sales site, top ten placings on Groovetech UK and USA sales charts, and #1 on Breakbeat.co.uk most listened singles chart.
